Marc Garneau
Marc Garneau (born 1949) is a Canadian astronaut, naval officer, and politician. A graduate of the Royal Military College of Canada, he served in the Royal Canadian Navy and later joined the National Research Council before being selected as an astronaut. In 1984 he became the first Canadian in space, flying aboard NASA’s Space Shuttle Challenger (STS-41-G). After leaving the Canadian Space Agency, he entered federal politics and was elected to the House of Commons in 2008. Garneau served in cabinet as Minister of Transport and later as Minister of Foreign Affairs. He is widely recognized for bridging science, public service, and national leadership.
