Marcus Licinius Crassus

Marcus Licinius Crassus (c. 115–53 BCE) was a Roman politician and general of the late Republic, famed for immense wealth and political influence. He rose to prominence after Sulla’s civil wars and later gained military renown by suppressing the Spartacus-led slave revolt (73–71 BCE). Seeking greater power, he formed the First Triumvirate with Julius Caesar and Pompey in 60 BCE, helping shape Roman politics through patronage and alliances. As consul in 70 BCE, he and Pompey supported measures that restored powers to the tribunes. Crassus died in 53 BCE during a Parthian campaign, defeated at Carrhae.
