Margaret E. Sangster

Margaret Elizabeth Sangster (1838–1912) was an American poet, author, and editor best known for popular sentimental verse and for her long career in periodical publishing. She wrote widely read poems and prose for general audiences and became a prominent voice in late nineteenth-century American letters. Sangster also held influential editorial roles, including work with *Harper’s Bazaar* and the religious weekly *The Christian at Work*, where she helped shape content for family and faith-oriented readers. Through her writing and editorial leadership, she gained a national reputation and remained a familiar name in American magazines and newspapers during her lifetime.
