Margaret Fuller

Margaret Fuller (1810–1850) was an American journalist, literary critic, and leading figure in the Transcendentalist movement. She served as editor of *The Dial*, the movement’s influential journal, and became known for her essays, reviews, and public conversations on literature and philosophy. In 1845 she published *Woman in the Nineteenth Century*, a landmark work arguing for women’s intellectual and civic equality. Fuller later joined the *New-York Tribune* and reported from Europe, becoming the paper’s first female foreign correspondent. She covered politics and culture and wrote about the Italian struggle for independence. Fuller died in 1850.
