Marguerite Gardiner

Marguerite Gardiner, Countess of Blessington (1789–1849), was an Irish-born writer and prominent literary hostess. She became Countess of Blessington through her marriage to Charles John Gardiner, 1st Earl of Blessington. Active in the early 19th century, she published novels and travel writing and was widely known for her salons, which attracted leading figures in literature and politics. Her social circle extended across London and Paris, where she helped shape fashionable literary culture. Blessington also produced works of biography and criticism, contributing to the period’s interest in celebrity and public life. She died in 1849.
