Marianne Moore
Marianne Moore (1887–1972) was an American modernist poet, critic, and editor. Born in Kirkwood, Missouri, she was raised in Pennsylvania and studied at Bryn Mawr College. Moore became a distinctive voice in early twentieth-century poetry, admired for precise observation, syllabic verse, and inventive quotation and allusion. She was associated with modernist circles and is often linked to Imagism for her clarity and attention to detail. From 1925 to 1929 she edited *The Dial*, an influential literary magazine. Her best-known poems include “Poetry” and “The Fish.” Moore received major honors, including the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award.
