Mary Baker Eddy

Mary Baker Eddy (1821–1910) was an American religious leader and author who founded the Church of Christ, Scientist, and established the Christian Science movement. Born in New Hampshire, she developed her religious ideas in the nineteenth century and presented them in her principal work, *Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures* (first published in 1875). Eddy also founded *The Christian Science Journal* and later *The Christian Science Monitor*, and she organized her church in Boston, Massachusetts. Through her writings and institutional leadership, she shaped a distinctive approach to Christianity centered on spiritual healing and the interpretation of the Bible.
