Matthew Sweet

Matthew Sweet (born October 6, 1964) is an American singer-songwriter and musician associated with power pop and alternative rock. Raised in Nebraska and Georgia, he moved to Athens, Georgia, in the early 1980s and became part of its music scene. After early work with the band Oh-OK and a stint in the duo Buzz of Delight, he launched a solo career, releasing albums including *Inside* (1986) and *Earth* (1989). Sweet gained wide recognition with *Girlfriend* (1991), featuring guitar work by Robert Quine and Richard Lloyd, and followed it with *Altered Beast* (1993) and *100% Fun* (1995).
