Max Eastman
Max Eastman (1883–1969) was an American writer, poet, editor, and political activist. A prominent socialist in the early 20th century, he became a leading voice in radical journalism as editor of *The Masses* and later *The Liberator*. Eastman was closely associated with left-wing cultural and political movements and wrote widely on literature, society, and public affairs. In later decades he moved toward anti-communist positions and became known as a critic of Soviet-style communism. He also worked as a translator and helped introduce the writings of Leon Trotsky to English-language readers.
