Meir Kahane

Meir Kahane (1932–1990) was an American-born Israeli Orthodox rabbi and far-right political activist. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he became known for founding the Jewish Defense League in 1968, an organization that promoted militant Jewish self-defense. He later moved to Israel and established the Kach party, advocating policies centered on Jewish nationalism and the removal of Arabs from Israel and the occupied territories. Kahane served as a member of the Israeli Knesset from 1984 to 1988. In 1988, Kach was barred from elections under Israeli law for racism. Kahane was assassinated in New York City in 1990.
