Morey Amsterdam

Morey Amsterdam (1908–1996) was an American comedian, actor, and songwriter. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he began performing in vaudeville and later worked as a stand-up comic and master of ceremonies. Amsterdam became widely known for his role as Buddy Sorrell, the wisecracking comedy writer on the television sitcom *The Dick Van Dyke Show* (1961–1966), which earned him Emmy recognition. He also appeared in films, including *The Young Lions* (1958), and made numerous guest appearances on television variety and comedy programs. In addition to acting, he wrote songs and comedy material, building a long career across stage, screen, and television.
