Mother Teresa
Mother Teresa was born to Albanian parents in what was then the Ottoman Empire, and is now Macedonia. At the age of 18, she took holy orders and moved to India to become a nun. Once in India, she served primarily as a teacher for almost 20 years before receiving what she later termed “the call within the call,” in 1946. Leaving the school, she took up the sari and began what later became known as the Missionaries of Charity. As a missionary, she became the personification of charity in the twentieth century. She died of complications due to heart disease in September 1997 at the age of 87. She was beatified in 2003
