Muddy Waters

Muddy Waters (born McKinley Morganfield; April 4, 1913–April 30, 1983) was an American blues singer, songwriter, and musician who became a central figure in postwar Chicago blues. Raised in Mississippi, he moved to Chicago in the early 1940s and helped electrify Delta blues for urban audiences. Recording for Chess Records, he scored influential hits including “Hoochie Coochie Man,” “Mannish Boy,” and “Got My Mojo Working.” His powerful vocals, amplified slide guitar, and commanding band sound shaped modern blues and strongly influenced rock musicians. Waters won multiple Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
