Nate Silver (born 1978) is an American statistician and writer known for applying data analysis to politics, sports, and economics. He founded the data journalism website FiveThirtyEight, which gained wide attention for its election forecasting models. Silver is the author of *The Signal and the Noise: Why So Many Predictions Fail—but Some Don’t* (2012), a book examining how people can make better judgments under uncertainty by separating meaningful information from misleading “noise.” Before his media work, he developed statistical systems for baseball analysis.
