Neil Simon

Neil Simon (1927–2018) was an American playwright and screenwriter whose comedies became staples of Broadway and American film. Born in the Bronx, New York City, he began writing for radio and television before turning to the stage. Simon achieved major success with plays including *Barefoot in the Park* (1963) and *The Odd Couple* (1965), noted for their sharp dialogue and character-driven humor. He also wrote screenplays and adapted several of his plays for film. In later years he drew on personal history in works such as *Lost in Yonkers* (1991). Simon received multiple Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
