Newell Dwight Hillis

Newell Dwight Hillis (1858–1929) was an American Congregational minister, preacher, and author known for his popular sermons and public lectures. He became a prominent voice in early-20th-century religious and civic life, combining pastoral work with a wide-ranging career as a writer and speaker. Hillis served for many years as pastor of Plymouth Church in Brooklyn, New York, a historically influential congregation. Alongside his ministry, he published books and essays that reflected his interest in faith, ethics, and social questions, helping to shape Protestant public discourse in his era. He remained a well-known lecturer and religious commentator until his death in 1929.
