Niels Bohr

Niels Bohr (1885–1962) was a Danish physicist whose work helped shape modern atomic and quantum physics. In 1913 he proposed the Bohr model of the atom, explaining aspects of atomic spectra through quantized electron orbits. He later introduced the principle of complementarity, emphasizing that certain physical properties require mutually exclusive experimental descriptions. Bohr was a central figure in the development of quantum theory and is closely associated with the Copenhagen interpretation. He founded the Institute for Theoretical Physics in Copenhagen (now the Niels Bohr Institute) and received the 1922 Nobel Prize in Physics for his investigations of atomic structure and radiation.
