Nikos Kazantzakis
Nikos Kazantzakis (1883–1957) was a Greek novelist, poet, playwright, and philosopher, born in Heraklion, Crete. He studied law at the University of Athens and later pursued philosophy in Paris. Kazantzakis traveled widely and produced a diverse body of work in fiction, drama, poetry, and essays. He is best known internationally for the novels *Zorba the Greek* and *The Last Temptation of Christ*, which explore freedom, faith, and the struggle for meaning. He also wrote the epic poem *The Odyssey: A Modern Sequel*. Kazantzakis died in Freiburg, West Germany, in 1957.
