Noam Chomsky
Noam Chomsky (Born Avram Noam Chomsky) grew up in an affluent neighborhood of Pennsylvania. At age 10, he wrote his first article, about the spread of fascism following the Spanish Civil War. In his teens, Chomsky became more interested in anarchism. Chomsky went on to earn his PhD in linguistics from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1955, Chomsky joined the staff of MIT, where he has taught linguistics for more than half a century. Chomsky has published over 100 books, the most influential of which was Syntactic Structures (1957), which laid the foundation of Chomskyan linguistics. He has also published books on anarchism, media criticism, and other subjects. Chomsky lives in Lexington, Massachusetts.
