Norman Schwarzkopf
H. Norman Schwarzkopf (1934–2012) was a United States Army general best known for commanding coalition forces during the 1991 Gulf War, leading Operation Desert Storm. A career officer, he rose to four-star rank and served as commander of U.S. Central Command, overseeing American military operations in the Middle East. Though not primarily a literary author, Schwarzkopf helped bring his public life to print through the memoir *It Doesn’t Take a Hero*, co-written with journalist Peter Petre and published in 1992. The book recounts his upbringing, military career, and the decisions and pressures surrounding the Gulf War.
