Norman Wisdom

Norman Wisdom (1915–2010) was an English comedian, actor, and filmmaker whose screen persona made him a major figure in postwar British popular cinema. He became best known for playing the hapless, good‑hearted character Norman Pitkin, a role that anchored a run of successful comedies in the 1950s and 1960s. Wisdom’s films typically cast him as an underdog battling authority and misfortune, combining physical comedy with sentiment and social satire. His work earned a wide international audience, and he remained a familiar presence in British entertainment for decades. Wisdom died in 2010.
