Orenthal James Simpson (born July 9, 1947) is an American former professional football running back, actor, and public figure. He played in the NFL for the Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers, winning the 1968 Heisman Trophy at the University of Southern California. In 1973, he became the first NFL player to rush for over 2,000 yards in a 14-game season and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985. Simpson later appeared in films and television. He became internationally known for his 1995 criminal trial, in which he was acquitted, and a later civil case that found him liable.
