Ogden Nash

Ogden Nash (1902–1971) was an American poet and humorist celebrated for his light verse, playful rhymes, and inventive wordplay. Born in Rye, New York, he worked in advertising and publishing before gaining wide recognition through poems that appeared in magazines such as *The New Yorker*. Nash published numerous collections, including *Hard Lines* (1931), and became known for bending spelling and syntax to comic effect while skewering everyday habits and social pretensions. He also wrote lyrics for musical theater, notably *One Touch of Venus* (1943), and collaborated on the book for *The Carnival in Flanders*. His work remains a touchstone of modern American comic poetry.
