Paddy Ashdown

Jeremy John Durham Ashdown, Baron Ashdown of Norton-sub-Hamdon (1941–2018), was a British politician and author. He served as Leader of the Liberal Democrats from 1988 to 1999 and was a Member of Parliament for Yeovil from 1983 to 2001. After leaving frontline UK politics, he worked internationally, including as the international High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina from 2002 to 2006. Ashdown was appointed to the House of Lords as a life peer in 2001. He wrote books and memoirs drawing on his political career and foreign-policy experience, and remained an influential voice in British public life.
