Paul Delaroche
Paul Delaroche (1797–1856) was a French painter associated with academic art and celebrated for dramatic historical scenes. Born in Paris, he trained under Antoine-Jean Gros and developed a polished style that blended careful realism with theatrical composition. Delaroche achieved wide success at the Paris Salon and became known for works that presented famous episodes with emotional immediacy. His best-known painting, *The Execution of Lady Jane Grey* (1833), depicts the doomed English queen in a staged, poignant moment. He also produced portraits and religious subjects. Delaroche was elected to the Académie des Beaux-Arts and taught at the École des Beaux-Arts.
