A longtime physician at Massachusetts General Hospital and a professor at Harvard Medical School, he became a leading advocate for preventing cardiovascular disease through exercise, healthy habits, and early detection. He gained national prominence as President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s cardiologist after Eisenhower’s 1955 heart attack.
