Paul Terry

Paul Terry (1887–1971) was an American cartoonist and animation producer best known as the founder of the Terrytoons studio. Born in San Francisco, he began working in newspaper cartooning before moving into animation in the 1910s. Terry established Terrytoons in the 1920s, producing a steady output of theatrical animated shorts for decades. Under his leadership, the studio introduced popular characters including Mighty Mouse and the mischievous magpie duo Heckle and Jeckle. Terry sold Terrytoons to CBS in 1955, and the studio’s films later became widely seen on television. He died in 1971.
