Peter De Vries

Peter De Vries (1910–1993) was an American novelist and satirist noted for his witty, urbane prose and comic treatment of modern life. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he studied at Calvin College and later worked in advertising. De Vries served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He became widely known for his long association with *The New Yorker*, where he contributed stories and humor. His novels include *The Tunnel of Love* (1954), a popular comedy later adapted for film, and *The Blood of the Lamb* (1961), a darker, acclaimed work drawing on personal tragedy. De Vries wrote numerous novels and remained a distinctive voice in American satire.
