Philip Pullman

Philip Pullman (born 19 October 1946) is an English novelist. He is best known for the fantasy trilogy *His Dark Materials*: *Northern Lights* (published as *The Golden Compass* in the United States), *The Subtle Knife*, and *The Amber Spyglass*. Born in Norwich, England, he spent parts of his childhood in Zimbabwe and Australia before returning to Britain. Pullman studied at Exeter College, Oxford, and later worked as a teacher. His writing for young readers also includes the *Sally Lockhart* series and the ongoing *The Book of Dust* sequence. He has received major literary honours, including the Carnegie Medal.
