Phyllis Diller

Born Phyllis Ada Driver, Phyllis Diller was the only child of Francis Ada and Perry Marcus Driver. Diller was worked as an advertising copywriter in Michigan in her 20s, and also studied piano for many years. After WWII, she began to make a career in comedy with her 1950s TV show, Phyllis Dillis, the Homely Friendmaker. Diller also made numerous other TV and movie appearances throughout the ‘50s and ‘60s, becoming most famous for her 1960s TV appearances alongside Bob Hope. Throughout her long career, Diller also worked as a stand-up comedian, starred on Broadway, and recorded five comedy albums. In 2012, Diller died of natural causes at age 95.
