R. C. Sheriff

R. C. Sherriff (Robert Cedric Sherriff, 1896–1975) was an English playwright, screenwriter, and novelist. He is best known for his World War I drama *Journey’s End* (1928), a play drawing on his own experience as an army officer in the trenches. The work became a major stage success and helped establish him as a leading voice in interwar British theatre. Sherriff later worked extensively in film, writing screenplays as well as fiction. His writing is noted for its clear dialogue and focus on character under pressure, often shaped by wartime memory and the moral aftershocks of conflict.
