R. Lee Ermey

Ronald Lee Ermey (1944–2018) was an American actor and former U.S. Marine Corps staff sergeant. After enlisting in 1961, he served as a drill instructor and later worked in military training and support roles. Ermey transitioned to film in the late 1970s and became widely known for his performance as Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in Stanley Kubrick’s *Full Metal Jacket* (1987), a role that earned him a Golden Globe nomination. He went on to appear in numerous films and television projects and became a recognizable voice and screen presence associated with military characters.
