Rabbi Nachman of Breslov

Rabbi Nachman of Breslov (1772–1810), also known as Nachman ben Simcha, was a Hasidic rabbi and mystic who founded the Breslov Hasidic movement in what is now Ukraine. A great-grandson of the Baal Shem Tov, he became known for teachings that emphasized joy, simplicity, personal prayer (hitbodedut), and spiritual renewal. His discourses were recorded by his disciple Rabbi Nathan of Nemirov in *Likutey Moharan*, a central Breslov text. Rabbi Nachman also conveyed his ideas through imaginative parables collected as *Sippurei Ma'asiyot* (“Tales”). He spent his final years in Uman, where his grave became a major pilgrimage site.
