Red Buttons (born Aaron Chwatt; February 5, 1919–July 13, 2006) was an American actor and comedian known for his work in film, television, and stage. He began performing as a teenager and served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. Buttons gained national attention through television variety and comedy, and he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for *Sayonara* (1957). His screen credits also include *The Poseidon Adventure* (1972) and *They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?* (1969). Though not primarily a literary author, his career made him a familiar presence in mid‑20th‑century American entertainment.
