Richard Bach
Richard Bach, a descendant of the composer Johann Sebastian Bach, was born in Oak Park, Illinois in 1936. From a young age, Bach had a love of aviation, which he started pursuing as a hobby when he was 17. Bach attended Long Beach State College, after which he served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force. After his military service, Bach worked as a flight instructor, aviation mechanic, charter pilot, writer, and editor. In 1970, Bach attained huge success as a novelist following the publication of Jonathan Livingston Seagull, an inspirational story about a seagull, which was eventually turned into a movie. Bach has also written many other popular novels, most of which include flight as a prominent theme.
