Richard Hovey
Richard Hovey (1864–1900) was an American poet, essayist, and lyricist. Born in Normal, Illinois, he studied at Dartmouth College and later at Union Theological Seminary. Hovey became known for verse that blended literary ambition with popular appeal, including the collaborative series *Songs from Vagabondia* written with Bliss Carman. His work also included essays and lyrics, and he was active in late 19th-century American literary circles. Hovey’s poetry often celebrated camaraderie, travel, and a free-spirited outlook.
