Robert A. Heinlein (1907–1988) was an American science fiction author and one of the genre’s most influential mid‑20th‑century writers. Born in Butler, Missouri, he served in the U.S. Navy before turning to fiction. Heinlein became known for combining adventure storytelling with rigorous speculation about politics, society, and technology. His major novels include *Stranger in a Strange Land* (1961), *Starship Troopers* (1959), and *The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress* (1966). Over his career he received multiple Hugo Awards and was named the first Science Fiction Writers of America Grand Master (1975). He died in Carmel, California.
