Robert Byrne

Robert Byrne (1924–2014) was an American author and humorist known for writing about cue sports and for compiling quotation collections. He wrote instructional and reference works on billiards and pool, including *Byrne’s Standard Book of Pool and Billiards*, and became a widely read voice on the game’s techniques and culture. Byrne also edited and assembled popular books of wit and aphorisms, among them *The 637 Best Things Anybody Ever Said*. His writing combined practical clarity with a dry, observant sense of humor, helping bring both billiards literature and quotation anthologies to a broad general audience.
