Robert Crumb
Robert Crumb was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1943. Crumb and his brothers drew their own comics as kids and sold them door to door. Crumb’s first job was as an illustrator of greeting cards in Cleveland, Ohio. In the late ‘60s, underground newspapers began publishing Crumb’s comics, and he left for San Francisco to join the counterculture movement. During this time, Crumb produced some of his best-known work, including the Keep on Truckin’ strip and the “Fritz the Cat” character. In 1993, Crumb and his family moved to southern France. In 2009, Crumb published a graphic novel version of the biblical Book of Genesis.
