Robert Lynd
Robert Lynd (1879–1949) was an Irish essayist, literary critic, and journalist who became a familiar voice in the London literary world. Born in Belfast, he was educated at Queen’s College, Belfast, and later moved to England, where he wrote for major newspapers and periodicals. Lynd was known for his graceful, conversational essays, combining wit with humane observation and a wide reading in literature. He also produced criticism and commentary on contemporary writing and public life. Among his best-known books is the essay collection *The Pleasures of Ignorance*, which helped secure his reputation as a leading essayist of the early twentieth century.
