Robert Thurman

Robert A. F. Thurman (born 1941) is an American scholar of Indo-Tibetan Buddhist studies and Tibetan Buddhism. He is professor emeritus at Columbia University, where he taught and wrote on Buddhist philosophy, history, and practice. Thurman has authored and edited books that introduce Tibetan Buddhist thought to general readers as well as students, including *Essential Tibetan Buddhism* and *Inner Revolution*. His work often explores how Buddhist ideas about compassion, ethics, and mental training can inform contemporary life. Through scholarship and public writing, he has helped broaden awareness of Tibetan Buddhism in the United States.
