Roger Miller

Roger Miller (1936–1992) was an American singer-songwriter and musician whose witty, inventive style helped broaden country music’s pop appeal. Born in Fort Worth, Texas, and raised in Erick, Oklahoma, he served in the U.S. Army before pursuing music professionally. Miller broke through in the early 1960s and scored major crossover hits including “Dang Me,” “Chug-a-Lug,” and his signature song “King of the Road,” which won multiple Grammy Awards. He also wrote songs recorded by other artists, notably “Me and Bobby McGee.” In the 1980s he wrote music and lyrics for the Broadway musical *Big River*.
