Roy Rogers
Leonard Franklin Slye, better known by his screen name Roy Rogers, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1911. Rogers dropped out of high school at 17 and worked with his father at a shoe factory. In 1930, Rogers moved to California, where he pursued a living as a singer. Rogers made his first film appearance in 1935 and soon became the nation’s favorite singing cowboy. In 1947, Rogers married the film star and singer Dale Evans; together with their horse Trigger and dog Bullet, the Rogers starred in The Roy Rogers Show and more than 100 movies. Rogers died of congestive heart failure in 1998 at age 86.
