Rudyard Kipling

Joseph Rudyard Kipling (1865–1936) was an English journalist, short-story writer, poet, and novelist. Born in Bombay (now Mumbai), British India, he was educated in England and later worked as a reporter in India, experiences that shaped much of his early writing. Kipling achieved wide popularity with tales and poems that drew on imperial and childhood themes, including *The Jungle Book* (1894) and the poem “If—” (1910). His other notable works include *Kim* (1901) and “The White Man’s Burden” (1899). In 1907 he received the Nobel Prize in Literature. He died in London.
