Rumi

Jalal al-Din Muhammad Rumi (1207–1273), commonly known as Rumi, was a Persian poet, Islamic scholar, and Sufi mystic. Born in Balkh, he later settled in Konya (in present-day Turkey), where he taught and wrote. His encounter with the wandering mystic Shams al-Din Tabrizi profoundly shaped his spiritual life and poetry. Rumi composed major works in Persian, including the *Masnavi* and the *Divan-e Shams-e Tabrizi*, blending Qur’anic learning with ecstatic devotion and reflections on love, longing, and union with the divine. After his death, his followers helped form the Mevlevi Order, associated with the whirling dervishes.
