S. D. Gordon

Samuel Dickey Gordon (1859–1936), known as S. D. Gordon, was an American Presbyterian lay evangelist and devotional writer. He became widely known for his “Quiet Talks” series, a set of accessible religious books that presented Christian themes in a conversational, practical style. Gordon’s work emphasized prayer, personal faith, and everyday discipleship, and his writings were used for individual devotion as well as church study. As a layman rather than an ordained minister, he addressed broad audiences through speaking and publishing, aiming to encourage spiritual renewal. His “Quiet Talks” titles remained his best-known contribution to early twentieth-century evangelical literature.
