Sir Christopher Wren

Sir Christopher Wren (1632–1723) was an English architect, mathematician, and astronomer whose career helped reshape London after the Great Fire of 1666. Educated at Oxford, he became a leading scientific figure and served as Savilian Professor of Astronomy at the University of Oxford. Wren was a founding member of the Royal Society and later served as its president. He is best known for designing St Paul’s Cathedral and for overseeing the rebuilding of numerous City of London churches, creating a distinctive English Baroque style. He also held the post of Surveyor of the King’s Works, directing major public building projects.
