Stella Adler

Stella Adler (1901–1992) was an American actress and one of the most influential acting teachers in the United States. Born into a prominent theatrical family, she performed from childhood and later appeared on Broadway. In the 1930s she studied with Konstantin Stanislavski in Paris, an experience that shaped her approach to acting and distinguished her from other American interpreters of his work. Adler taught generations of performers and emphasized imagination, script analysis, and the actor’s responsibility to the text. She founded the Stella Adler Conservatory in New York City in 1949, later known as the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, and remained a central figure in modern American actor training.
