Stephen Gwynn

Stephen Lucius Gwynn (1864–1950) was an Irish writer, journalist, literary critic, and politician. Born in County Dublin, he was educated at Brasenose College, Oxford, and became known for a wide-ranging literary career that included biographies, travel books, and studies of Irish and English literature. Gwynn also served as a Member of Parliament for the Irish Parliamentary Party, representing Galway City (1906–1918). During the First World War he supported Irish participation in the British war effort and served in the British Army. After the upheavals of Irish independence, he continued to write extensively, producing works on history, culture, and public affairs.
