Stephen King

Stephen Edwin King (born September 21, 1947) is an American author whose work spans horror, supernatural fiction, suspense, crime, and fantasy. Raised in Maine, he studied at the University of Maine and later taught English before turning to full-time writing. His breakthrough novel *Carrie* (1974) launched a prolific career that includes *The Shining*, *It*, *Misery*, and *The Dark Tower* series. King has also written under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. Many of his books have been adapted for film and television. He has received major honors including the National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters.
